Education Crowdfunding: Building Futures in Senegal and The Gambia
Published by Compassion Fund • Halalan Tayyiban Holding, New York
Education is among the most powerful forms of sadaqah jariyah — a continuous, lasting charity whose rewards never stop. In Senegal and The Gambia, thousands of bright children are unable to complete their schooling due to the cost of fees, uniforms, textbooks, and basic supplies.
The Compassion Fund, founded by Sheikh Musa Drammeh — Co-founder and Chair of Halalan Tayyiban Holding and a prominent Muslim leader in the Bronx, New York — runs a crowdfunding programme connecting Western donors directly with students and schools in West Africa who need support the most.
What We Fund
- School fees for orphans and children from single-parent households
- Textbooks and supplies for entire classrooms in underserved schools
- University scholarships for outstanding students who cannot afford tuition
- Islamic school (madrasa) upgrades — furniture, roofing, and sanitation facilities
- Teacher training grants supporting qualified educators in rural communities
Campaign Targets
- 340 children to be sponsored through school fee coverage in 2026–2027
- 12 schools to be supplied with books and materials across Dakar and The Gambia
- 18 university scholarships to be awarded to students in Senegal
- 3 madrasas to be refurbished with donor crowdfunding
“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.” (Ibn Majah)
Sponsor a Student Today
Our crowdfunding model is transparent and direct. Choose how you give — a one-time gift for school supplies, a monthly contribution covering a child’s fees, or a larger donation to fund a university scholarship.
Every campaign shows exactly where your money goes, with updates from the school or student you supported. This is sadaqah jariyah you can see and feel.
The Compassion Fund serves communities across the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and beyond. Our West Africa education programme is one of our most impactful — and most underfunded. Your support makes a direct, lasting difference.
